The Marine edition by Cheryl Reavis Literature Fiction eBooks
This is by far the best of this author's stories; Ms Reaves is a female Nicholas Sparks with the same settings North Carolina. This was so well written with in-depth character interaction. Grace is a widow raising 2 teenage daughters who by the way are normal girls--one is a fashionista and the other studious with no fashion sense at all. Enter USMC, Sergeant Josh Caven with his baby daughter one afternoon while Grace is trying to get the girls to help clean up their beach house. Of course there is girl drama when Josh drops the bomb; you are my mother and here is a notarized state-issued birth certificate to prove it. Josh is going to deploy soon and needs to amend his Family Care info beforehand; his wife has abandoned him and Elizabeth (Spike) their daughter. Retired USMC Sergeant Joseph Kinlaw is Josh's friend so he is looking out for him. Grace sure doesn't look like the kind of woman he pictured as Josh's long lost mother especially after she emphatically denies his accusation. Lisa & Allison, her daughters, are shocked and Grace can't grasp that they actually believe this. Of course she is not his mother but he is related (I won't tell how). Anyhow this story has other side stories that develop to put the reader into the picture and give feeling to everything that going on around Josh Caven and the James family. You begin to care and really feel for the relationships between the Marines in this story and how they care and support Josh as well as other wounded warriors. Grace and Joseph are older adults with responsibilities and personal histories so their relationship takes a round about way to develop. She was unhappy in her marriage with divorce a possibility hadn't Trent been killed in car accident; she was always the good wife, steady, make no waves. Now she has to raise 2 teens alone; Joseph's wife left him because she couldn't cope with multiple deployments and he was a volunteer helping wounded Marines deal with PTSD as well as other issues. Their paths cross with Josh & his daughter. This will have you laughing, getting angry at some of the situations and finally happy with the ending. This is definitely not a cookie cutter romance story as most of Ms Reaves aren't but the ending are happy even unexpected. diamondgirl

The Marine edition by Cheryl Reavis Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Every time I read a Cheryl Reavis book, I decide it's my favorite, and, yes, it's happening again. I'm still vibrating with the emotion of the story. I also say, every time I read a Cheryl Reavis book, that I'd give it six stars if I could, and, yes...no, no, I wouldn't, because six wouldn't be nearly enough. This is a romance between Grace and Joseph, but it's so much more. The reader gets invested in every single character--or else there's something gravely wrong with the reader. I admit, I'm always left wanting to read someone else's story, and this book is no different. I want to know who loves Allison a ways down the road, and I want to know who makes Muley happy. They both deserve the best.
Another romance as refreshingly different as The First Boy I Loved. Ms. Reavis delved into the emotions of adults who felt uncared about as kids and how that changes their outlook on relationships and trust. I loved Josh - a devoted father and dedicated Marine, Grace, the new widow, her two daughters and especially Joseph - a retired Marine who's made it his job to care for other Marines who have been broken in spirit and body. The refreshing part of Reavis stories is that her heroines and heroes are not all fresh, young, innocents, but older, having been battered around a bit by life, yet strong, resilient and willing to put their hearts on the line again. I was so captivated by her characters I was not ready for the book to end and would have been happy to mingle with them for a while longer. DON'T miss this fabulous story.
A standalone read with a HEA. OMG this book was so good. At first I was a little confused. It took me a while to get my characters straight and figure out who was who. But then I got into the meat of the story and I could not put the book down. It is now 315a.m. and I just finished. I have to admit my heart dropped at the end but then everything looked up again!! Thank Goodness. You will have to read to get what I am talking about.
The story starts with a young man that is in the Marines, a Sgt. with a child. He is getting ready to deploy again and he has to have care for his child or put her in foster care. He spent his life in foster care and he does not want that for his daughter. his mother gave him up and he has no idea why. His only chance is to find his biological mother and see if she would be willing to watch her granddaughter while he is gone. He has done his research and he knows who she is he just needs to confront her and see where it goes.
A young woman, widowed with 2 teen daughters is his mother. He approaches her with all his information and she has no idea what he is talking about. He has a birth certificate with her name on it and a picture from when she was a teen. She is totally confused but her daughters are horrified that she had a son and they didn't know about it. A big mess from any point of view. He is desperate, time is running out and he needs help with his daughter. His wife suddenly left him while he was deployed and she didn't want the kid either. So he is almost divorced with full custody and no one to help him. This breaks my heart to think this could happen to one of our service members and we all sit here doing nothing. I know this could happen in real life. One of the daughters, Allison is a delightful human being. She wants to take him in as well as the little girl. She has an open heart and mind. There are lots of side characters in this story. Some you will not like and would find it hard to forgive her sins!!! Some you will love and wish they were your friends. But lots of things going on that add a bit of mystery to things.
This story has a lot of twist and turns. It was very entertaining and interesting. it was so close to real life. I loved the retired Sgt. that helped everyone. He was a winner in my book. I loved the way he thought and talked and helped everyone. I LOVED that he got the girl! What a hero he was. Again, very like real life.
This is a very good read and I definitely recommend it. The sex was more on a 1-2 scale. I don't see that this story would offend anyone. It could have been taken right out of real life on any military base in the U.S.
I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 6/21/17
